I have imagined moments spent with Jesus and seeing his face.
Asking him questions. Seeking his advice. Getting his reactions. Watching him in various situations and circumstances.
There was a large influence of darkness trying to keep him from effective work on earth and on behalf of humanity.
But the verse I love and will cherish was when Jesus is saying his goodbye in the days leading up to his crucifixion. In fact what he says here is the very night of his arrest:
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
Jesus gives peace. His peace, which is a gift to all of us. I’m so glad what he said that night was remembered and written by John for us to have today. He strictly says, “The peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.”
I Give It to You
“My peace.” I am leaving a part of me with you as I leave this place. It’s the peace I have lived with and experienced all my life as I have learned how to be with the Father. As I learned to be with him, you should learn to be with me.
The world will offer many versions or counterfeits of my peace, but don’t believe any of them. They will only lead to trouble. They can offer you nothing but empty promises and unfulfilled lives. I guarantee you if the world is your source of peace, you’ll never have it. Click To Tweet At least not permanently. It will always be just out of reach, leaving you seeking for more and more.
You will find the world says, “Here you go this is it. You’ll have what you’re looking for if you do this. Or eat that. Or drink from here. Or be with that person. Or marry that man. Or have 2.5 kids. Or chase the perfect job.”
Really, the list could go on and on. But here I am offering you a free gift if you only take it. It’s the peace I lived into while I was on earth and you have been promised the same thing.
Until you find it, you will be always be troubled. Unsettled. Never happy. You’ll never feel like you have enough or are enough for anyone. I knew from the beginning I was loved. My earthly mother loved me as best as she knew and so did Joseph my father. But the day came when they forgot about me while I was stirred deep within and lingered at the temple.
I asked a lot of questions about the Messiah for most of 3 days. I learned who I was and my mission in life became more and more profound to me. I knew the God they spoke of in the scripture was the Most High God who loves unconditionally.
The day came when I was baptized by that messenger John who also knew his mission — to make the paths straight and smooth for my work and the people around us. I knew that day when I heard the voice say, “This is my son in whom I am well pleased.” I pleased my Father in heaven! I was doing his will! That is my peace. Click To Tweet
While all around me was trouble and there was no lack of Satan’s helpers to stir up trouble, I was still at peace. You see, when I would pray and he would tell me “My son, you will meet with some fishermen.” Or when his voice through the Spirit said, “Go, cross the waters. They are scared and feel alone,” I went. I knew all along I was doing what my Father willed for me.
Because before I left my throne above we came up with plan in perfect detail. All my life was ordained there. Every step. Every day. All of you. This land, this ministry. This room. This meal. My destiny tomorrow.
I will not leave you alone. I will not only rise from the grave, I will send you Someone who is also me. I am in Him and He is in me. This is all in The Plan.
And knowing that brings so much peace! Do you understand? This peace I live in, you can have! I want you to have it because you’ll need it just as surely as I needed while here with you these last few years and all my life.
I will come again, according to The Plan. I will be leaving time and stepping back into Eternity shortly. What will seem like your lifetimes will be but an instant to me. What will seem like your lifetimes will be but an instant to me. Click To Tweet But just know I eagerly await that day too. More than you could possibly know.
I love you and will see you very soon.
